Ian grew up in the Niagara Falls area, but his family roots in Waterloo Region eventually drew him to the University of Waterloo, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career in St. Catharines with R. Martin Engineering before moving to Waterloo in 1995 to join Cumming Cockburn Ltd. It was there that he met his wife and, inspired by his passion for engineering and community, went on to establish Meritech Engineering in 2000.

Under Ian’s leadership, Meritech has grown into a thriving firm—recently celebrating 25 years of delivering innovative, solution‑driven, and client‑focused outcomes for land development and infrastructure projects. Ian has guided the team with values that define who we are today: work hard, get it done, be accountable, and always make time for family. His belief in the importance of family has shaped our culture in a way that is truly immeasurable.

Beyond the office, Ian has been an invaluable contributor to both our industry and the community—volunteering on numerous committees, serving as an active Rotarian, and supporting local sports teams and community initiatives.

While we will miss seeing him in the office each day, we know he won’t be far. Ian will continue to be a trusted mentor and guiding voice for all of us at Meritech Engineering.

We wish Ian all the very best in his retirement—and hope he finally finds time to tackle that famous honey‑do list!!
